FINAL REPORT

The capacity building workshop on the management planning for world heritage sited in Iran was held between 25th April and 3rd May 2015 in Tehran. The workshop was an II.TED initiative and a result of collaboration between II.TED, the Iranian Cultural Heritage Handicraft and Tourism Organisation, the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tehran.

The political dimension of heritage assumes more and more relevance of factors such as international dialogue opportunities (as testified in recent UNESCO policies and programs implemented in the Balkans and Palestine) in order to stimulate a sense of belonging that goes beyond local interests and to provide a basis for new forms of identity and citizenship. Most importantly, when assuming the sustainability paradigm it is imperative to gain a deeper understanding of the irreplaceable quality of heritage resources and their significance and skill in their management when considering economic and political decision making.
